My Snail Rebuild Integra DB8

thanks. my guess is the oil. i was told that i could use semi synth for 8k km. but i changed it just over 5k km. so i dont think its the oci. anyway now i'm using a different oil. in my next service, how would i know if there is a lot of varnish without opening the valve cover?

does anyone has any advice on what gear oil i should use? i have been reading quite a lot. some say use honda mtf, some said use brands like torco, redline n amsoil. some even asked to use motor oil. i m confused. hope to get some help here as i'm close to change my gear oil real soon.

and also how many litres of oil is needed? because i see them selling 1L of gear oil. just wanna know how many i should buy.

Erm... it's not going to be the end of the world with varnish, but wouldn't hurt to switch to a fully syn every now and then. You should be able to tell by open the oil cap and a torch light.

Honda MTF is a pretty safe bet. I'd try the redline or Amsoil if it says it's compatible with honda mtf. I'd shoot the guy who suggested motor oil. Very different viscosities.

If not mistaken it's about 2L.

for B series.. gear oil is 2L

MTF-III is ok... so is redline and motul gear oils

izso, madman, thanks guys.

i went to 4 shops today but they didnt have MTF-III. i went to spare part shops. Any idea where i can get it from? I mean what type of shops? I thought sparepart shops would have them. why i'm asking is because i dont like the idea of getting it from workshops because they overcharge. thanks.

Honda MTF 3? Let me ask my regular shop later when I go back

JB i dunno where to get... i get mine at exceptional autoparts here which is a spare parts shop for hondas

cant wait till ur engine fire up again, i would love to hear the sound of a healthy vtec

yeah...miss my vtec. when its fresh out of the shop...just waiting to hear it scream... light touch of the throttle and u see the rpm move...haihhss. praaaaaaaaangggggg!

honda MTF-III Ultra, newly formulated for honda LSD and non-LSD gearbox...at KL is RM185 for a 4L tin, doesn't come in 1L. should be able to get these at honda spare part suppliers.

can i use the other 2L to clean the GB? or should i just keep it for the next oil change?

if u were using some other brand before... id recommend using the 4L can for flushing as well. so that u get all the residue from the previous brand out.

dont know what brand was used before by the previous owner. just to be on the safe side, i'll get it flushed anyway. just as i'm typing this, i remember reading somewhere not to flush ur B-series GB. but i cant remember using what. Maybe that was for the other flushing fluids in the market.

Use 1L or 2L to flush?

By any chance, does anyone know what drive shafts is used by DB8? I went to the half cut shop, the guy there said there are two types, the long one and the short one. He says that he needs me to open it up and bring it to him to see which one has to be used. I think he's not sure.

Anyway, i just checked with my mech, he said its the right side drive shaft that has given away. When i turn right, make a full turn expecially, i have this kraak.. kraak.. sound. So, just for confirmation, is it really the drive shaft.

I'm not sure whether i sould be getting a new or used one? What do you guys think? Used one is about RM300. I dont know how much is a new one. Any idea how much and where about to get it?

appreciate it man!! here the shops are carrying slick50. never heard of it. so i'm staying away from it.

Slick50 made additives in the past. They were sued at one point too for can't remember what reason.

My spareparts shop fella said he can order the Honda MTF-3 but he's asking why a Myvi would need this oil. LOL

I forgot to ask him for the price though but I don't think it'll be as expensive as a workshop but won't be too cheap either since he doesn't stock up this type of oil.

Haha. Can u believe it? I went to two more shops this morning because i'm quite desperate looking for it now as i'm going for SNF tom and they said no such a thing? No such a thing? what the heck man?
They have Honda MTF but not Honda MTF-III. And the price difference is so much. MTF-III is close to 200 bucks for 4 litres. This is 22 bucks for a litre. Is it ok to use that?

i was in JB last weekend... would have bought it for u and brought it down...but it was a really rush trip... barely had time to sleep somemore... heh...

That's very nice of u bro. I managed to get one just only. Will have to collect it later today because that particular shop also got it from another shop.

Just to confirm, Is MTF-III and MTF-3 the same. I googled to make sure i get the right thing but i saw MTF-3 as well. Could anyone show me the packaging of the Honda MTF-III that you guys were refering to or using? I googled it but too many images, don't know which is which. Quite urgent as I will be collecting it later. N i don't want to pay RM200 for the wrong thing. Btw, RM200 ok right? I saw in mudah Rm200+.
