How to install a grounding cable kit - DIY style

Any differences between those HKS branded gc and any other copper wire out there? We can always custom made anything.

And any noticeable improvement after install gc? I've installed a VS in my alza but so far no changes made

I actually questioned that guy in his thread and he got really hostile with me. LOL

mind to disclose which seller? I've bought a DIY VS from one of the seller in lyn too!

i believe hks never produce a gc cable.. or a wiper .. but we always see them selling at accessory shop

all that is a custom made item choped with hks name

If can get a good set of copper cable can DIY the GC yourself. Maybe even better.....:driver:

I got myself a red Audiobank 4 gauge ICE cable as grounding cable. Cost RM8/feet. Suitable connector at RM1 each and another RM4 for the cable cover. The only trouble is I have to use a hammer to tightened the connector to the copper cable.
DIY installation on 6 point and I find out the car does feel lighter during acceleration. Another thing which I noticed is the air-con is cooler, smoother power window operation and lesser annoying sound when the compressor kick in.

I have no dyno result but is this is mainly placebo effect?

Also, anyone know what is the fuse capacity needed for a cable from battery to alternator? Standard 50A ICE fuse works?

Thanks in advance.

At first I thought of that. But then I came across this replica HKS Groundng (dats the spelling!) at mudah for RM10 only. Since the shop is nearby, I went to it and bought a set. Basically the cables consist of normal copper wires inside, but thicker than OEM. One plus point is that all the cables are quite long, with an average of maybe around 60cm - 65cm.

So I DIY and found that the cables are really long. So I bought the clips/connectors for 60cents each, cut the cables shorter, connect the clips and wahlah~ from a 5 cables/points grounding set became 7 cables set

Connect to the alternator, firewall, engine left and right, and gearbox housing (already got an original cable there, so just add one more) and bla bla bla used up all 7 cables.

One noticeable thing is when I switch on the AC with the headlamps on, the headlamp would dim a little but recover its brightness faster than without GC. Alright so it works. But power or acceleration thingy...nah...just the same. Maybe because my car is still new. But for RM10, hey, what do we expect?

Can buy RM50 and connect everywhere!!

RM10? that is really dirt cheap woh!

Yesssss!! I see some places selling the exact same thing for RM30-80!!!!

So if the cables are not good enough? Buy two or three sets and install them in your car

But dat accessory shop dude tried to scam me into buying this imitation pivot grounding cable. When I got into the shop, I asked for grounding cable. He showed me 3 types. The purple hks, pivot 7 core (something like that), and a zapalang brand. I asked the price for HKS, he replied RM10. Ok...honest...then I took the pivot in my hand and read what's written behind. As far as I know, pivot doesn't sell grounding cable like this one. It's black colour cable in a yellow box. Pivot cable is blue, the black one being the pivot ignition earth - one cable only. Well I might be wrong here, so please let me know.

Then I asked that dude what is the difference between the hks and pivot. He said its because of quality and he then take out the cables from the box and showed me. Ok the pivot one is better. The connectors, the cable, etc. Then I asked what is the price. He said RM150!!!! Wtf lol I can get dat same thing elsewhere for less than RM50! I asked why so expensive and he said that this is original cable from pivot. So I took the RM10 super duper cheap and economical hks Groundng.

Man for RM150, I can buy 15 sets already lol...I don't think the pivot cable efficiency is better than 15 sets of hks cables haha

Yup, for RM10 I would have tried them too. I can't even buy the cable to do it myself for RM10.
If you bought 15 sets, your engine bay will be like spider web....hahahahaha:rofl:

over-grounding isn't a good thing btw.

You might end up causing a circuit loop and that'll short circuit something. Just focus on the key grounding points which are in my opinion :

1. starter
2. alternator
3. compressors (all of em)
4. distributor
5. firewall
6. battery negative terminal.

Ok the last 2 aren't really grounding points but to help close the loop.

I've read in a forum (forgot which forum) long time ago, somebody said to ground ENGINE BLOCK as well coz it's contain most moveable part and create more noise. Not sure it's correct or not

Erm..what I understand is

1. Alternator - coz it charges ur battery, and yes it has positive and negative so ground the negative
2. Firewall - most in car electronics and gadgets negative point connect to the firewall
3. Engine block - sensors
4. Starter / ignition coil - receive electricity from battery. So grounding improve the current flow
5. Distributor - the name says it all

So correct me if I were wrong. I personally don't think over grounding would hard the circuit. Coz if u have a very huge negative terminal in a circuit, what you get is just minimal losses. It's not like we need back pressure or something. Well again, I could be wrong =)

Original already have one to the gear box area. Gear box and Engine all joined together...

Probably over grounding is okay, but might be of no use as it has it's limit.

I did mine to firewall, alternator, distributor, engine, inlet manifold and all this is to the battery negative terminal. An additional one from engine to car body as the engine is sitting on mountings so more should be better....:driver:

Well the one mounted on alternator body, I connected it to the firewall, touching another cable which goes back to the battery terminal. Cable not long enough :banghead:

ha! ha! I did the same, but mine joined at front panel because alternator is in front and not near firewall.....shorter route...

ohh ya one more thing, I've actually asked a shop owner of car accessories shop and he told me that grounding cable doesn't really give any difference, at least for his perdana v6. He'd advise me not to install thing kind of fancy stuff.

Difference as in what? If he's talking about engine performance then his statement is true.
