Old School Cars Discussion

Don flooring mean, not everytime ..... not every traffic light/toll. Is ok, You can swap 4g93t. :driver:
Gov still allow 1.8 swap...lol.
1st and 2nd gear ratio short. Cannot tarik...

Oh, just don't floor it too often. I thought don't go full throttle at all during 1st and 2nd gear. If floor it all the time also will be bad for tyres.

1st and 2nd gear ratio too much power.......lol:biggrin:

Not as much as yours.

4G93T originally tarik 4wd......However, cars converted with 4G93T tarik 2wd at the front only. Power only concentrated at the front, so most likely the front mount of the car develop cracks.....esp when whacked frequently in 1st or 2nd gear.

Back to discussion of old school cars... Do you think these old chassis can handle the power of newer engines like maybe a 4A-GE 20 Valve on a TA22 or KE70?

If go for those chassis strengthening services, effective or not?

Old car such as TA22 (earliest should be 1971, I think) is already 40+ years old. Provided the car is rust free, and retained original chassis strength, standard 4AGE engine is already pushing the chassis to its limit (assuming the driver is using every hp from this standard engine)

Before even considering chassis strengthening, perhaps one should tackle the rust problems.
Japanese old skools are often associated with rust issues.

good point, from my factory experience. Machinery under vibration, if crack. Welded, put plate reinforcement, still crack...lol.
Stainless steel also crack.
For rusty old car, restore nicely. Treat it with care.
Unless it use for drag/drift...whacked n repair.

Seventies don't know, but my JDM nineties so far very minimal rust....:driver:

I think it does not help, as most of the time is the welding that cracks.....

Looks like nothing much can be done to strengthen old chassis. I thought maybe by doing stuff like spot welding can help.

So, even a 4A-GE seems to be the limit of these old chassis... Then I think it sounds quite crazy for those people who throw in SR20DET into old Datsun or maybe RB20DET... Turbocharged engine with over 200hp in ordinary old Datsun car... Aren't they worried about chassis strength?

Not to mention recently I saw some people at Facebook who did extensive cutting and welding to put in a V8 Nissan engine into 1st gen Proton Saga. Another one I saw is transplanting 2JZ-GTE into 6th gen Celica platform. Extensive transmission tunnel cutting and welding. A lot of praises from commenters though. :banghead:

I saw a TA23 long nose with a 1jz engine. Lots of mods involved, The engine has only mm space before firewall, and few mm from the radiator and shroud. If the celica had a moderate front impact, the engine bay is gone....The wasnt any crumple zone to absorb the force. Donno if that car had JPJ endorsement or not....

I suspect the car is nose-heavy if plonked in a 1jz.

For me, a 4age powertrain or a turbocharged version would be sweet for the celica....Price wise.....

By right with the cc rule, I think 1JZ is already not legal?

I think 4A-GE NA is still a more suitable choice for old school cars since NA engines gives a more direct and raw feeling without lag.

If any watch astro discovery. Those restore old car/truck,
only use back exterior built. To look as old skool. Structure beneath it already replace with new frame.

Last time NTV7 also got similar show years ago. Called Overhauling.

Changing frame is totally not allowed here. Touch chassis a bit also can't.

From time to time, there are monster car sold at mudah. I checked a few cars out, and quite surprised they are driven on the road without endorsement. Of course, most owners assured there wont be prob when changing ownership....

If they are being truthful about problems with changing ownership, then what is the point they post out and try to sell the car?
