Don't know whether this subject has been discussed or not.

I keep on wondering why road tax for 4X4 is more expensive than the normal vehicles.

Think of it, normal vehicles will be be on the road all the time and 4x4 will sometimes be off the road.

So, why they pay more road tax?

road tax is based on CC and type of fuel they used
polution of the engine?
that's why diesel more expensive then petrol

Because there are a lot of posers nowadays driving 4x4s that never go off road. The furthest off road they've been is their front lawn, maybe.

u'r partly right dude but how do you justify a Kembara 1.3L vs MYVi 1.3L ,where a Kembara owner has to pay more than the normal saloon?

Pardon my ignorance as i've been away from civilization for the pass 10 days. Didnt get to watch the "Budget".
Anyway i thought diesel roadtax have dropped by 40%. So now it's worthwhile to have a diesel engine.

And why do u say 4x4 road tax is expensive. I thought its cheaper by roughly 30 something % then cars.
If not why do u see so many X5 4.2, 4.6, 4.8, Lexus Cynus 4.7, and Range Rovers 4.6 on our roads?
For a 4.6 Rangie u're paying roughly Rm4300. If it was a car with that cc....... easily 5 figures.

Well if u're so concerned about road tax why dont u just drop in a rotary engine into a Series Landie and go brap brap brap up Sg Dua and Kerling? (just kidding).
So have u decided what engine to drop into a Series Landie? Rover V8? Toyota 1KZ turbodiesel? Hehe thats my ideal engine in a Landie.

diesel's road tax is four times the road tax price of a similar capacity petrol engine

eg a 3000cc petrol engine is around RM2145
but diesel's road tax is RM8580

and doesnt matter what sort of drivetrain ur car is.. its calculated via the engine capacity
and not the fuel consumption of your car, like what england did

I thought it's cheaper now after the budget? Combined with the 50% rebate for green engines.
No doubt petrol roadtax will still be cheaper.

Funny Savanna 12a u hardly reply your posts.
